The organizers invite scholars from varied disciplines (cultural studies, transatlantic studies, literary studies, theater studies, film studies, musicology, art history etc.) to contribute a paper or panel on relationships and comparisons between Austria and Canada from the 19th century to the present. Both Austria and Canada occupy a space that is slightly outside of the usual debates surrounding their larger and more influential neighbors, yet both countries have their own long-standing traditions that expose cultural idiosyncrasies and overlap in historical encounters.

Papers sought:
Papers as well as reports on works-in-progress and pre-formed panels are invited on issues related – but not restricted – to any of the following themes:

#   cultural aspects of constitutional topics and demographic developments
#   cultural issues of national identity, multiculturalism, and multilingualism
#   emigration and exile
e.g. life and work of Hans Eichner, Henry Kreisel, and Herfried Scheer
#   influences and co-operations in the arts and popular culture
e.g. David Cronenberg, Michael Haneke, Anne of Green Gables
#   cultural mediators, writers, journalists, and translators
e.g. Anna Helene Askanasy, Marta Karlweis and Charles Ulric Wassermann, Anton Frisch, Karin Fuerst, Erich Koch, Eugen von Philippovich, John T. Salvendy, Bryan B. Sterling, and Carl Weiselberger
